Thurrock Church Brasses

An inscription, 14.2 x 48.7cm, and shield, 17.5 x 14.9cm, of Cicilye, wife of Thomas Owen of London, a merchant tailor who died in 1603.

‘HERE LIETH THE BODY OF CICILYE OWEN WIFE
TO THOMAS OWEN OF LONDON MARCHAVN TAYL
LER WHO HAD BY HER 7 SONNES & 3 DAVGHTERS
SHE DIED THE 18 DAY OF AVGUST 1603 WHOSE
SOVLE IS AT REST WITH GOD.’

Thomas Owen owned a number of properties in Orsett, Chadwell and Little Thurrock including Chadwell Place which is presumably where they lived. In 1607 he sold all his local properties to Sir Thomas Temple.
